創立於1970年，為國際上第一個也是唯一的跨國志工網絡組織，在國際民間社會聲譽崇隆，於志願服務領域居領航地位。IAVE總部設於美國華盛頓DC，擁有55個國家作為國家代表，會員遍佈全球95個國家，其區域涵蓋北美地區、歐洲、拉丁美洲、非洲、亞太地區及阿拉伯國家等。
IAVE並為聯合國「經濟與社會理事會」（Economic and Social Council, ECOSOC）的特別諮商（Special Consultative Status）團體，為各聯合國會員國統籌志工培訓和倡導志工精神。自創立以來，每雙數年舉辦世界年會，單數年於全球五大洲舉辦區域年會，已成為聯合國相關組織、NGO及推展志願服務的各級政府及企業共同匯聚交流的重要平台，每屆皆吸引超過80個國家近千位代表與會，IAVE近年來在專業志工領域的發展受到各國政府仰賴，IAVE長年來倡導志工精神與專業志工培訓，對全球志願服務的推展具有莫大貢獻。 |
